Smoking Hot Strategies For Cutting The Cost Of Your Habit - Business

It is no secret that smoking is becoming an increasingly expensive habit. With tobacco taxes rising and the price of cigarettes going up, many smokers are looking for ways to cut the cost of their daily smokes. If you have been tempted by a half-smoked butt on the street, however, you need not despair just yet. There are a number of things you can do that will cut your weekly smoking costs and keep you in cigarettes for years to come. By stocking up, cutting back and buying a refill butane lighter, your cigarette habit may not be as expensive as you think.

Most non-smokers will tell you that you should quit smoking altogether, especially when you are complaining about the cost of cigarettes. While quitting may be unthinkable, these people do have a point. The less you smoke, the fewer cigarettes you have to buy, the less you pay in weekly cigarette costs. While quitting altogether may seem extreme, cutting back by even two cigarettes a day can make a huge difference. An average pack contains twenty cigarettes so if you save two cigarettes a day, you will have saved an entire pack in a little over a week.

Buying a refill butane lighter is another way to cut the cost of smoking. Most disposable butane lighters do not contain much lighter fluid at all and can be quite unreliable. Refillable lighters tend to be better quality, however, and you can buy the lighter fluid in bulk. This way, you can simply refill your lighter whenever it runs dry. While you may have to put out more money for fluid in the short term, it will last much longer and will end up saving you money as time goes by.

Buying your cigarettes in bulk may also be an option. If you know someone who works in retail or you have access to a tobacconist's wholesale catalog, you may be able to buy large quantities of your favorite cigarettes for a fraction of the regular price. Even if you do not have wholesale access, most cigarettes do go on sale eventually. When you see a good sale, buy as many cartons as you can afford. Once again, this may cost you a lot at first, but you will save money in the long run.

While each of these strategies can help you save money over time, they usually work best when used together. If you can stock up on bulk cigarettes, buy a refill butane lighter and cut back on your daily cigarette consumption, you could end up saving hundreds of dollars per year. As cigarette prices continue to rise with no signs that the situation will change any time soon, this may be very good news indeed.
