Katy Perry grabbed 5 trophies at the annual People's Choice Awards on Wednesday, January 11, 2012. She made herself felt even if she wasn't present in the show. She was awarded for favorite female artist and for her music video for "Last Friday Night" (T.G.I.F), to name a few. She also earned awards for her the categories, favorite tour headliner, favorite song, and she also won the award for favorite TV guest for her role in the CBS hit show "How I Met Your Mother."She was nominated for seven awards which included her music, film and TV career. It was going to be her first public appearance since news hit the papers of her divorce from actor Russel Brand but she canceled 2 day prior to the ceremony. The split could possibly have helped the star in acquiring her sixth No.1 hit on the Billboard's Hot 100 chart.On a different note, Bruno wars won the award as favorite male artist beating Justin Bieber and Blake Shelton to name a few.Demi Lovato, bordered by a Cheap Trick-inspired checkboard set and wearing a shock red dress, gave the audience an inspiring performance of her hit single "Give Your Heart a Break." She surprised everybody by winning the title of favorite pop artist, beating the likes of Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Katy Perry.A short time after the performance a Twitter hastag (#) surfaced saying "Congrats Demi". "Demi just beat Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Katy Perry and Beyonce.. Is she irrelevant now?" tweeted @ibeliebnmemi.Lady Gaga won the favorite album of the year for "Born This Way" at the ceremonies held at the Los Angeles Nokia Theatre.Eminem was a favorite for the hip-hop genre and for country who else but Taylor Swift. Faith Hill delivered a stunning performance of her single, "Come Home."Rihanna was given the title of favorite R&B artist by voters, she has also just announced that her next single will be "Talk that Talk." Inadvertently, she beat her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown in the running which seemed like justice was served. Her hit single "We Found Love" is still in the Hot 100 chars for the ninth weed and running, not too shabby for the Barbados-born singer.Maroon 5 went home with the award for favorite band. Lead singer Adam Levin gave a simple acceptance speech saying "This is incredible, our fans are the greatest on earth," which is a far cry from his controversial tweets.Most of the attention was given to the Film and TV categories which is usually what happens during the People's Choice Awards. Lea Michele of Glee was ecstatic when she won the award for favorite TV comedy actress, she gave all the budding "Rachel Barrys" a worldwide shout out. Lea Michele went on to dedicate the award to her cast, "I want to dedicate this to my amazing cast - my glee club. I'm an only child, and now I have 11 other siblings," she said. "This is for our fans. 'Glee' would be nothing without you guys. This is thanks you. We're all Rachel Barrys out there, so this one's for you."The FOX series "New Directions", did not take home any additional awards throughout the night.
